This is not your standard Chick-fil-A with different as in addition to the standard Chick-fil-A staples, the restaurant features unique, tropical, and Polynesian-inspired items like fish tacos, Kalua pork, mahi-mahi, and bubble tea. The restaurant was opened in December 2013 when att 92 years old, Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy created this special project to share his love of Hawaiian vacations. He even handpicked the decor to bring the island spirit to his home state.

The restaurant actually have several distinct parts including the dining room, a quick service counter, a patio and a drive-thru. The quick service and drive-thru and standard Chick-fil-A with just a bit of Hawaiian theme. However, the decor inside the dining room at Truett’s Luau is 100% Hawaii from the plants to ukuleles to the playful ceiling fans. This restaurant is like being transported to a tropical oasis and the staff even dresses appropriately with “Hawaiian” shirts. The patio or “lanai” as it would be called in Hawaii is gorgeous with flowers and a waterfall. This would be an excellent place to enjoy your food outdoors on nice days.

Truett’s Luau serves, “Hawaiian favorites with a Southern spin”. In addition to Chick-fil-A classics the specialty menu consists of everything from Island Chicken Salad sandwiches, I’a Makana Tacos, a Frosted Pineapple drink and Lava Cake. The appetizer menu has exotic things like calamari and traditional things like nachos. There’s also the traditional chick-fil-A choices, but with some twists like being able to bet sweet potato waffle fries or having the “tropical nuggets” served in a sweet and spicy sauce. You’ll also find a wide assortment of tacos with various proteins including fish and chicken. The “From the Islands” specialty menu is where things get really interesting. Here you’ll find burgers at a Chick-fil-A along with pork and chicken salad!

Our table got an assortment of different items. My son got a standard kid’s meal nuggets, but swapped out sweet potato fries for the regular fries and loved them. My wife got a luau burger which had bacon and pineapple on it along with waffle fries and I got the Pua’s burger that came topped with pork and bacon with pineapple fried rice. The pineapple fried rice was the surprise hit for our table in that it had great traditional flavor without being overwhelmingly sweet. The quality of the food was great and the service was fast after ordering. Everything was delicious and portions weren’t overwhelmingly large. When it’s time to pay, you can also redeem Chick-fil-A gift cards or earn points while dining at Truett’s Luau, so be sure to have the app ready. This is table service, so these is a line for a gratuity for your server as well and it is closed on Sundays like other Chick-fil-A restaurants.
