Kumba at Busch Gardens Tampa has closed and is now erased from the park map. The name “Kumba” was said to translates to “roar“ in an African Kongo (Congo) language, according to the Busch Gardens marketing material. The hollow track provided the distinctive roaring sound as the train traversed the track. However, there is still a ride named Kumba and it’s located at Serengeti Park Hodenhagen in Germany. It’s not a roller coaster, but a giant pendulum ride.

The signage on the ride prominently says Kumba, but the ride is formally known as Kumba Twister. The ride is manufactured by Technical Park and is known as their “Typhoon” model. It has been operating at the park since 2012 and aligns with the African wildlife and safari theme of Serengeti Park. The park is located between Hamburg and Hanover and boasts over 2,000 animals and over 100 rides, attractions and shows. The ride looks great with some of the best theming I’ve seen on a pendulum ride, especially at night. However, all the rides at Serengeti Park seem to have great theming.

The specs of Kumba Twister won’t blow you away at a max height at 120 degrees, but the “roof” structure is a unique element. It is very similar to a Zamperla Discovery 30 which guests in the United States may be more family with. The ride looks like a lot of fun and a night ride also looks pretty spectacular too. So Kumba may be gone and Kumba’s revenge is not here yet, but in the meantime there is another Kumba in Germany.
