Georgia Gold Rusher at SFOG Closed Until 2027 While Intamin Makes Changes

Georgia Gold Rusher

It appears Georgia Gold Rusher at Six Flags Over Georgia (SFOG) will be out of commission until sometime in 2027. There were rumors that the ride vehicle (train/gondola) had been returned to Intamin in Europe for repairs and that appears to be the case. SFOG mentions that the manufacturer (Intamin) will be making enhancements to improve reliability. Given the long transport time (likely by boat), it doesn’t appear there’s a way to get it back operating this season. This roller coaster’s operation has been sporadic at best since it opened last year, so hopefully this dramatic step is one in the right direction. For those of us in Georgia this news is tough to hear, but SFOG is saying the right things and their candidness and honesty should be applauded. Six Flags put out a press release about the status of Gold Rusher on their social media:

Georgia Gold Rusher Update

In 2025, we debuted a new type of thrill: Georgia Gold Rusher. This first-of-its-kind, free-spinning coaster provides a combination of high speeds, hills, 360-degree views and exciting water features. Keep reading for an important update for the 2026 season.

From time to time, rides and attractions require adjustments specific to their individual design. In 2025, we debuted a new type of thrill: Georgia Gold Rusher. This first-of-its-kind, free-spinning coaster provides a combination of high speeds, hills, 360-degree views and exciting water features.

To improve the ride’s performance, availability and reliability, the manufacturer will be making enhancements to the ride’s vehicle. Unfortunately, these enhancements will not be complete until the 2027 season.

We know our guests are excited to experience this roller coaster, and we share your disappointment that we are not able to open it this year. However, we believe the manufacturer’s enhancements will allow us to deliver the consistent and reliable ride experience that our guests deserve.

We thank you for your patience and we’ll share more information on its 2027 reopening as it becomes available.

When you buy a prototype you take some risk. SFOG doesn’t run away from this in their press release. You do gain some marketing advantage by being first and likely a price advantage, but there’s always the risk of issues like this. It’s unfortunate that this is back to back for SFOG with Kid Flash Cosmic Coaster (actually being removed this week). Georgia Gold Rusher is an amazingly fun ride with surprising airtime and great forces. Hopefully Intamin gets this right and the ride is back in reliable service for the 2027 season.
