Disney is known for its iconic cartoon characters. Chief among them is Mickey Mouse, but on the next tier with his own meet and greet is Donald Duck. However , did you know Donald Duck had the middle name Fauntleroy? His middle name was first revealed on his military draft card in the 1942 cartoon Donald Gets Drafted made during the heart of World War II. This was an interesting blend of cartoon and current events for sure!

His unique middle name comes from the classic sailor suits and hats he wears, which were often called “Fauntleroy suits”. These were a 19th-century children’s fashion trend popularized by Frances Hodgson Burnett’s 1886 novel Little Lord Fauntleroy. This frequently merged with the Royal Navy uniform to give a common look for that era which Donald adopted.

Donald Duck goes into the public domain in 2030, so this is a character with a lot of history. However, I didn’t know his middle name until recently. If you find yourself at Disney with Donald you may want to call him by his middle name to see if he notices.
