For years Busch Gardens Williamsburg had a secret spot hidden in the Germany section near the fountain and through a secret passage protected by a password (and a ticket). Here guests could be transported to a speakeasy reminiscent of the times of prohibition. This place is called Bürgermeister’s Hideaway and is quite fitting considering the brewery heritage of the Busch Gardens Williamsburg. It started in 2022 as a ticketed show experience with live actors that included specialty beverages for around $50. As of 2025 the park is now outwardly advertising its existence online for all to enjoy with no “show”, as more of a standard bar with no upcharge, but still has some lively characters. This has some long time patrons upset that the secret is out, but many more are discovering it for the first time. It turns out Bürgermeister’s Hideaway was never so much “secret”, but more “exclusive” given the cost and need for a ticket.
Bürgermeister’s Hideaway: Not-So-Secret Anymore – Come See What It’s All About! Behind a sweet façade lies a once secret hideaway bar that houses the true spirits of its country. Now all guests can see what the secret is about. There is a tale told that somewhere tucked away in Germany’s Rhinefeld Village lies a sweet reveal, a centuries-old secret bar, that offers a drink that is contrary to its country. This hidden den, run by Busch Gardens’ iconic Bürgermeister, offers guests an opportunity to partake in a spirited experience filled with festive drinks, a fantastic ambiance, and lively interactions that will leave guests wanting more. The secrets and mysteries of speakeasies live on in this ALL-NEW adventure at Busch Gardens Williamsburg open to all guests.
It’s funny how things like “exclusivity” work psychologically. We’re happy when we’re let into the “club”, but often defensive when future groups get the same access. I think this is the case with Bürgermeister’s Hideaway in that what was once behind a paywall is now open to everyone. It now has more in common with Das Festhaus than a speakeasy with open access. However, Das Festhaus and the theming in the German area of the park are spectacular, so that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Theme parks have often had exclusive perks hidden behind paywalls like the famous Club 33 at Disney, VIP lounges at Six Flags or VIP tours. Bürgermeister’s Hideaway is a different attraction now, probably losing some of the theatrics that made it special, but it will now be experienced by a larger audience. From the park’s perspective they’re probably looking to maximize revenue with the facility and have placed their bets with the new model.

I’m sorry I didn’t get to experience Bürgermeister’s Hideaway in its previous form, but if you didn’t know what existed before, what we still have is pretty cool sounding. Theme parks are always evolving and changing rides, shows and restaurants, so enjoy your favorites while you can as the only thing constant is change.
