Six Flags Over Georgia has electric car charging available in its parking lot and at least last year it was totally free! The chargers are on the edge of the main parking area in near ideal parking spots right next to Batman The Ride. This location has to be the prettiest view I’ve had from a charging station. The chargers have the standard SAE J1772 plug, so if you have a Tesla you may need an adapter. The chargers also have huge beautiful LED screens that double to show advertisements.

The chargers had been in the parking lot under construction for some time, but were finally operational last year. The chargers were initially announced back in 2021 in partnership with charging company Volta, however in 2023 Volta was acquired by Shell. This may have had something to do with the delay.

Electric car chargers at theme parks are actually a bit of a rare find, especially free ones. Disney has chargers across the Walt Disney World including EPCOT, The Magic Kingdom and Disney Springs, but they’re managed by ChargePoint and are almost $5 for 2 hours of charging. The largest set of chargers I’ve seen were at LEGOLAND Billund in Denmark where there was a Tesla Supercharger station in the parking lot across the street from the park. LEGOLAND was very much about electric cars in that their kid’s “Traffic School” (Trafikskolen) attraction had electric charging stations and by Shell too! Disney also recently announced its Autopia attraction will be going electric too.

Thank you Six Flags Over Georgia for having electric car chargers. Electric cars have become a bit of a volatile political topic recently, but they are no longer an insignificant percentage of cars on the road. As a plug-in hybrid car driver I sincerely appreciate the ability to drive the 45 minutes home on battery. Savings on gas are my favorite benefit of owning an electric car, so free charging can mean a zero cost drive home. Hopefully more parks will follow the lead of Six Flags and we’ll see more chargers at more parks in the coming years.
