Wanna Reinvigorate a Theme Park Land? Release a New Movie Like Universal is with Cat in the Hat

One of the largest areas at Universal’s Islands of Adventure is Seuss Landing. It’s prominently located near the entrance and features 4 rides, dining options, play areas and character meet & greets. Kids may be familiar with the universe of Dr, Seuss from childhood books, but there hasn’t been much in terms of TV/movies since the Jim Carey live action Cat in the Hat in 2003 nearly 25 years ago. However, that’s about to change with the release of a new animated The Cat in the Hat movie on November 6, 2026. The buzz around this movie has been good and it has a chance to make this theme park land more popular than ever.

Picking an IP to make a theme park land is not an easy business decision. You want to pick something that has some level of success already, but it must also have 20-30 years of staying power to justify the capital expense. Something like Stranger Things may be popular now, but what will it look like in 20 years? Universal may have a problem with this in their Toon Lagoon area of Islands of Adventure where Popeye and Dudley Do-Right are virtual unknowns to some younger generations.

Dr, Seuss should hopefully have staying power. Although it has been somewhat absent from TV and movies, the books are still popular. It also resonates with parents who pay the bills and plan the vacation. This area of the park is quite large and prominent, thus making it very valuable real estate to Universal. Hopefully the movie can launch the IP more fully back into popular culture and with it bring new life to Seuss Landing at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.
