Monster Mansion wad an opening day attraction at Six Flags Over Georgia in 1967. On opening day it was known as Tales Of The Okefenokee (1967–1980), then Monster Plantation (1981–2008) and now Monster Mansion. The ride is widely considered to be the best dark ride in the Six Flags chain and possibly the best one outside of Universal and Disney. The park isn’t being complacent though, they’re making the ride better all the time. Six Flags Over Georgia has been great about putting out behind the scenes videos about their work on Monster Mansion on social media. The park calls these “Easter Eggs” and they frequently try to incorporate the history of the ride or the park.

One of the recent videos was specific to the new monster in the bathtub in the ceiling scene. This is very early in the ride just as you enter the mansion and have your picture taken. The bathtub that has partially fallen through the ceiling to your right and you’ll see a monster in the tub with water pouring out below. The idea came from a drawing in the ride archives and the addition was meant to give the mansion a more flooded feel. The pieces of broken ceiling and the monster’s expression all add to make a great effect. This is a monster some riders may miss if you’re trying to take a good on ride photo, but it’s definitely worth a quick glance, especially for regular riders. Mark Jones who acts as one of the ride’s caretakers has nicknamed the monster Bubbles.

There are tons of other improvements to Monster Mansion as well. Depending on when your last ride was you may notice new fog and lightning effects, new audio effects coming from specific monsters (a couple are employee cameos), new set decorations and even new or upgraded monsters. Some of the items come from the archives and they’re even using modern techniques like 3D printing. It’s also great that these characters are original IP that the park is now using in “meet and greets” as merchandise.

It’s great to know that every time you ride Monster Mansion there could be something new to find. The ride is so kinetic that it may take a couple of rides to take it all in. It’s great that Six Flags Over Georgia is taking such great care of this ride. Hopefully it means Monster Mansion will be around for years to come with even more exciting upgrades for fans to find and enjoy.
