LEGOLAND Billund Resort is opening a new roller coaster in 2026 (or actually two credits due to the two tracks and dueling nature) called Minifigure Speedway. The attraction is already open at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, where the picture above is from, and features a duelling element with each team having their own minifigure captain. The ride will be located between Knights’ Kingdom and Adventure Land at a height of ~50 feet and is being built on the site of the former Vikings River Splash. This is a “shuttle” style coaster manufactured by Zierer, so the fact it experiences the layout both forwards and backwards makes the most use of the 843 feet of track.

The coaster’s official mascot, Roxie, is at the heart of the new attraction and stands at a gigantic 30ft tall, making her the world’s tallest Minifigure. The height of the coaster and the height of Roxie should make this the most prominent thing in that area of the park. It’s sad to lose Vikings River Splash, but Denmark is not necessarily a warm destination, so a coaster is probably a better option for the Halloween and Christmas seasons. This was a pretty cool Intamin raft ride with a ~25 foot drop and some great Lego theming. It opened in 2006, so it was less than 20 years old, but raft rides like this are often expensive to operate and they also take up large pieces of land, so I imagine in the coming years we may see more of these replaced with coasters.

With regard to water rides, even with the loss of Vikings River Splash, the park still has the excellent collection of water based attractions. Attractions on or involving water include Lego Canoe, Mini Boats, Fire Brigade, Pirate Boats and Pirate Splash Battle. These rides allow guests to experience water attractions of varying degrees of expected wetness from potentially soaking to a boat ride where you remain completely dry. Pirate Splash Battle was probably the “wettest” of the rides at the park, but Lego Canoe is a pretty awesome flume style ride with great scenery and a very mild splashdown. The Pirate Splash Battle also has the potential to get you soaked, but the rest are more rides “on water” rather than water rides that get you wet. The Pirate Boats are more of a water powered dark ride (a Lego answer to Pirates of the Caribbean) and the Mini Boats are a scenic outdoor ride through Lego displays of international landmarks. The Fire Brigade has you shooting water hoses to put out a fake fire and here how wet you get is kind of up to you and your choices.

The POV of Minifigure Speedway from Windsor is pretty cool. The dueling aspect is limited and not going to confuse anyone with Stardust Racers, but its definitely there. The backwards portion will probably be the mos rare portion for a family coaster as there have only been a few of these family shuttle coasters built, but they do seem to be gaining in popularity. Of course there will now be essentially identical versions of this ride in Windsor and Billund, but Holiday World also recently opened Good Gravy! and Carowinds opened Snoopy’s Racing Railway.

LegoLand Billund is a spectacular park. It’s great to see continued investment here, especially in the form of what amounts to two new roller coasters. The specs on this coaster won’t blow anyone away or break any records, but that’s OK. It will be an attraction the whole family can enjoy while bringing just enough thrill and fun to make roller coaster enthusiasts smile too.
