There is a new movie coming out in 2026 featuring the Looney Tunes characters which are a prominent license of Six Flags. Although it is entitles “Coyote vs. Acme”, it features other iconic Looney Tunes characters such as Bugs Bunny. The movie stars John Cena who is red hot right now with his WWE retirement tour, “Peacekeeper” show and new Amazon movie “Head of State”. This can only be good for Six Flags as anything that brings attention to an IP in your park can generate visits and merchandise sales.
There isn’t a ton known about the movie and even an official trailer is hard to find, The movie appears to be centered on Wile E. Coyote suing Acme, the biggest and most powerful company in the world. Wile E. Coyote hires attorney Kevin Avery (Forte) to sue Acme who is defended by attorney Buddy Crane, played by John Cena. It was originally set to come out in 2023, but Barbie took its slot on the release calendar. This movie was originally thought to be lost forever when on November 9, 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery announced the completed film would not be released. Instead they preferred to either sell the film or claim a tax loss of about $30 million. However, shockingly at Comic-Con in July there was an announcement of Coyote vs, Acme theatrical release date of August 28, 2026 and even some footage shown!

I was recently at Six Flags America and they actually had an Acme themed family coaster called Great Chase. It’s a simple Zamperla coaster meant for kids, but the theming was great and perfectly on target for Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner. Great Chase is a really clever name given the way Wile E. Coyote would chase Road Runner, of course with the help of Acme products. Hopefully this little coaster finds its way to another Six Flags park next year.

One thing I would love to see would be a movie made on some original IP from Six Flags Over Georgia’s Monster Mansion. This dark ride is amazing, basically Disney dark ride quality and it was designed by former Imagineers. Monster Mansion does have a bit of a checkered past as it was formerly known as Tales Of The Okefenokee (1967–1980) and Monster Plantation (1981–2008) with lots of history and politics. Splash Mountain at Disney is also connected to Monster Mansion as both are based on the Joel Chandler Harris Uncle Remus stories. Monster Mansion has some iconic characters that could make for a great movie.

It’s great to see this movie actually getting released as it was feared lost similar to the never released, but completed Batgirl from 2022. In order to get the tax write-off a film must not be released in any format that generates a profit, so essentially it can never see the light of day. It just seems so wasteful, even if studios sometimes claim it’s because the movie isn’t good. Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner were a childhood favorite of mine on Saturday mornings and in this era it appears nostalgia sells. Hopefully the movie does well and introduces a new generation to these classic characters.
