On July 4th we had a chance to catch the Splash Water Parade at Six Flags Over Georgia and it was simply stellar summer fun. The parade features several dozen performers who put on a water-themed show full of music, dancing and some audience participation. What was surprising is that the parade features live singing, original music and a huge cast of choreographed dancers. This parade has the look and feel of a Disney afternoon parade with catchy music and high performer energy. Part of me sat there a bit dumbfounded as I almost couldn’t believe this was happening at Six Flags Over Georgia. From the floats to the choreography to the Splash logo gear performers and the support staff, it was obvious Six Flags made a major investment here. It was a complete and seamless performance.

The parade takes place Tuesday through Sunday at 2pm and 4:30pm, June 28th through July 11th. The parade begins in Peachtree Plaza between the Dahlonehga Mine Train and train station and continues past Monster Mansion to the USA section of the park. The location is perfect in that it goes right by the kids sections of the park. However, calling it a parade may be a bit of a misnomer in that it’s really more of a traveling show that pauses along the route for performances. The show portion of the parade is about 10 minutes in each location. You’ll know where these locations are as there are support staff there with carts with supplies for the audience participation portions. Also, the rides along the parade route (like the Dahlonega Mine Train and Monster Mansion) will close during the parade, so plan accordingly there. They open immediately after too, so this can also be a great opportunity to get a short line on a post parade ride.

The parade itself is themed on water with performers everywhere wielding sprayers and water blasters. They aren’t going to soak you though, it’s more of a cooling sprinkle and mist that you can also totally miss if you want by taking a few steps back. There’s a mix of original music and some mashups of summer classics like “Feeling Hot Hot Hot”. In one portion the performers will also invite the kids along the route to join in the water spraying fun. The songs were catchy and the energy of the performers was amazing.
The audience participation portion with the kids was especially great. Kids were asked to join the performers by the floats and given goggles and water blasters to start. What was really cool is that the kids were given directions of what to do completely in song from the performers! The kids got to spray the performers and audience along the parade route (which felt great on a hot summer afternoon in Georgia). They also got to dump buckets of water on the performer’s heads and it was clear that the kids loved it including our 8 year old son!

After 10 energetic minutes it was time for the parade to move on and we couldn’t have been more satisfied guests. I’m not sure if this parade is going to be an annual thing, but I sincerely hope the park brings it back next year. It was a sincere highlight of fun and joy in our day that made us smile from ear to ear. This is the first time Six Flags Over Georgia has had a parade since 2006, so it’s been a while and hopefully it won’t be another 19 years until another one returns. There’s also the potential that this show and performers will travel to some of the other Six Flags parks this summer, so if it comes to your park make sure you don’t miss it. Thanks Six Flags for making such a wonderful investment in a parade like this which helps make for a wonderful and well rounded theme park day.
