The Universal Studios Hollywood lot will serve as the venue for the racket sport of squash for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, California. Specifically, the court complex is expected to be setup on the Universal Studios Lower Lot which is also the home to the new Super Nintendo World, Jurassic World – The Ride and Transformers: The Ride. Squash will make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles Games along with flag football. The sports of baseball/softball, cricket, and lacrosse will be returning the games after being absent for some time.

In squash players use a racket to hit a small ball against the front wall of an enclosed four-wall court. The goal is for the players to alternate hitting the ball back to the front wall before it bounces twice to earn a point. Whoever receives 11 points first wins the game and the first to win 3 games wins the match. It is a hybrid of sorts between racquetball and tennis and can be contested either as singles or double

Squash Competition

This isn’t the first athletic event to be contested at Universal Studios. The reality competition show American Ninja Warrior has filmed qualifying rounds at the Universal Studios Hollywood back lot for several seasons. Of course the Olympics are another level of competition seen around the world. It’ll be great to see the park used as a backdrop for the games and this may bring a new level of exposure to squash, especially among theme park fans.
