Minor League baseball is known for having some inventive names from the Albuquerque Isotopes to the Rocket City Trash Pandas. However, two teams directly tie into amusement parks, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies and the Brooklyn Cyclones and both are part of the Mets organization. The term Rumble pony is slang for a carousel horse, and the Binghamton, NY area is known for having several carousels. The Brooklyn Cyclones take their name from the Coney Island Cyclone roller coaster with their stadium adjacent to the park!

The Brooklyn Cyclones play in Maimonides Park (formerly MCU Park) that is adjacent to Luna Park with the Thunderbolt roller coaster being the most visible in the outfield. Luna Park is of course also home to the Coney Island Cyclone, but this coaster is on the far end of the amusement park relative to the ballpark. The field also offers views of the Parachute Jump in right field, and the Wonder Wheel and Coney Island Cyclone in the distance in left field. The park’s concourses also use different color lighting to evoke a theme park feel. If you’re a theme park fan getting a hat or a shirt or other baseball gear from these teams could make for a great conversation piece!
