Get Your Engineering Cub Scout Adventure Loop at Fun Spot America Atlanta with ArieForce One!

The “Engineering” adventure has the potential to be one of the most fun and exciting in scouting as one of the handbook recommended activities is to have scouts build their own roller coaster! A trip to a theme park is a great way for the scouts to explore and learn about engineering and Fun Spot America Atlanta is perfectly suited for this adventure. Earning the “Engineering” Adventure Loop at Fun Spot can be as simple as watching a few YouTube videos, having a discussion, riding a great roller coaster and participating in the park’s “build your own roller coaster” activity.

Fun Spot America Atlanta is a great family theme park in Fayettevillle, Georgia, just south of Atlanta. It has thrill rides, family rides, go-karts, food and other fun attractions. It is also home to the world class roller coaster, ArieForce One, one of the top roller coasters in the world as ranked by enthusiasts. It was given the “Golden Ticket” award for best new roller coaster attraction in 2023 and was ranked the #17 steel roller coaster in the world in 2024. For the “Engineering” adventure Arieforce One provides a prime specimen for scouts to study and learn from. The coaster’s “I-Box” track is a unique engineering feat that lets the ride be assembled like a giant Erector set. ArieForce One’s station is also filled with some engineering “Easter Eggs” including the autograph of real astronaut Doug Hurley who attended the ride’s opening

The “Engineering” adventure asks the scouts to investigate several different types of engineering such as civil, mechanical and electrical and all these are present at a theme park. Scouts also must examine blueprints and/or a site plan which is provided for ArieForce One as part of the guide below. The park’s maintenance area is also very unique in that it’s open/visible in the center of the park, so you can potentially watch the park’s mechanics and engineers at work. The final part of the adventure asks the scouts to plan and build their own engineering project with a model paper roller coaster as one of the scout handbook suggestions. However Fun Spot America Atlanta has a “build your own roller coaster” activity for groups that last 30-45 minutes.  This includes a planning worksheet and build using foam pool noodle “u-shaped” track with marbles that would also satisfy the requirement. Please contact the park’s group sales department for more information about this activity, group packages or group rate tickets.

On October 17, 2025 the park will also be hosting a scout overnight camping event! Scouts will have the chance to sleep in their tent inside the park on Friday and then enjoy the park on Saturday complete with some great theme park food. Please contact the park’s group sales department for more information and more details will be available as the event gets closer.

The guide below will help your Scout group prepare to complete the “Engineering” Adventure Loop requirements for Arrow of Light at the Fun Spot America Atlanta theme park utilizing primarily the “ArieForce One” roller coaster. There are two versions below, the simple version is only 5 pages and contains a couple of patent images and a portion of the site plan while the complete version has two roller coaster patents and the site plan in their entirety. This plan is “unofficial”, but Fun Spot has reviewed it and has given permission for use of their logos and information. This guide has not been reviewed by Scouting America, but has been made by a fellow Georgia scout leader with best intentions to meet the requirements in the way leaders normally do for any adventure. Please feel free to adapt it for your group or situation and most importantly have fun!
